"I went on the course to gain an understanding of other people. But my biggest learning was that I needed to understand myself first."

About Stephanie Philp |
Hi, I'm Stephanie and I'm the Director of MetaMorphosis Ltd. (Director is a very fancy title for someone who does everything.)
I answer the office phone
Stephanie Philp
So when you ring up you won't get some impersonal corporate telephone exchange and a confusing list of complicated options.
If I don't answer, it's because I'm not in or I'm with a client. You can leave me a message and I'll get straight back to you. How's that for good old fashioned service?
I learned about service working in the UK, France, and NZ
With a background and qualifications in human resource management, people have always been my passion. I've loved working with and getting to know people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. I've worked in all kinds of business settings; from heavy manufacturing, to vehicle rental and haulage, to healthcare to the power industry.
As member of the senior management team of a power company I've been responsible for human resource management, staff and industry training and development, health, safety and cheering people up!
People in crisis
I've been on the front lines with field staff in crisis situations such as cyclones and storms. I've seen first hand how good training, communication and leadership are critical to success.
What I love about leadership is helping people learn and grow. Helping them become more of what they're capable of becoming. Seeing people from all over an organisation develop the confidence to take on new and bigger challenges is a great reward. When I saw that others weren't able to achieve the results that I achieved with their teams, I realised I was doing something different.
A particular skill
I have a particular skill of being able to 'read' people. In fact I can read people really well. I can discern if someone is upset or off colour or pleased about something without being told. This is extremely useful and has enabled me to:
. understand people's deep motivation and achieve collaboration where previously there was conflict.
. coach people to have more success in their jobs or relationships.
. identify potential conflicts and deal with them before they get out of hand.
. help 'stuck' people get themselves unstuck.
I didn't see it as a skill at first, because it's something that is innate in me and I assumed everyone had the same ability. But at the power company in particular, working with a great group of very logical, left-brained engineers and accountants I realised they simply did not see, hear or feel things the way I did. This was very frustrating for me and for them!
A frustration and a revelation
The fact that others didn't perceive things in the same way was a revelation for me. And I was utterly frustrated that I was unable to explain what I 'knew' intuitively in any logical way. I was determined to find out how I was reading people. If I could do that I could justify logically the decisions I was making. And I wouldn't feel like the 'alien' who had just 'beamed' into our management team meetings! My search lead me to many different disciplines which, while deepening and extending my knowledge, didn't answer my questions.
Finally I found out about Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
I heard about Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and read my first NLP book in 1990. I was astounded and completely enthralled! But NLP was virtually unknown in New Zealand and this was a problem. There was no internet so it took until 1994 until I took my NLP Practitioner Training.
After 18 consecutive days of intensive NLP learning my brain felt totally sautéed. But what a ride! The training answered lots of questions for me and just made total sense. At last I'd found a way of explaining what I was doing 'intuitively' all along - very logically.
NLP explains logically, illogical humans!
Using NLP skills I can now teach people all the things that were 'natural' to me. So even if you don't naturally pick up on what's happening for others, I can teach you what I do, so you can do it too! As a methodology NLP is quick and precise in effecting the permanent changes people want. If you're curious with how people do what they do, think the way they think, and know what they know, you'll love NLP. That's why I decided to teach it to others.
And now I do train NLP
I'm a certifying trainer of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) at an internationally recognised level. I've been fortunate enough to train with some of the world's top NLP Trainers.
I'm certified as a coach through the International Institute of Humanistic NLP and Hypnosis and also qualified in Ericksonian Hypnosis.
I use NLP skills everyday and in every area of my life. I use them to challenge my own thinking. I use them when I'm training and when I'm consulting. This means when you train with me I can give you practical and personal insights about what works. And I use NLP to teach NLP.
I enjoy nothing more than sharing my passion for NLP, Ericksonian Hypnosis and all of their practical applications.
